Mountain and hillside vineyards are prized for their ability to impart complexity, structure, and concentration to wines produced from the grapes grown on their slopes. The Napa Valley Merlot is a perfect example of this. High above the Valley floor, east of the town of Napa, this vineyard resides on an exposed spine of volcanic rock. The cooler climate and well-drained, rocky soils provide the necessary conditions to coax out the complex, intense flavors from the grapes. We always look forward to making this wine and never cease to be amazed at the delicate power that it delivers time and time again.
